Are you designing your apparel for children, teenagers or for the elderly? Now, narrow down your objective. For instance, if you are focusing on children, identify what interests children. They love cartoons and vibrant colors. Choose the colors that suit the moods of children. For instance, girls like pink and boys love black and brown. More detailed research on income groups would help you to determine a financial target. Are you willing to sell your designs to lower income groups or higher income groups? What is your price range? $5 or $500?
You could do the research with market research, survey results or even by gleaning from your experience. In fact your experience would be the best judge in identifying the fashion market.   1. The fashion industry is big business. There is no getting around that subject. I personally feel that no one should dictate to me what I should wear. Let alone, create within me, or anyone else for that matter, peer pressure if not conforming to the accepted dress code.

    The general public is unable to afford the runway prices, let alone having the desired figure to fit into the marketed clothes. Peacock hats definitely would draw interest on the streets, but then would it be the desired interest?

    It is a well known fact that what was acceptable years ago, as a standard of dress, will eventually return to being acceptable given time. Remember those bell bottom pants? They are back – just redesigned using different fabric and supported with different add on features. Men’s ties are also a subject that seems to be incorporated into the trend setting fashion world. Skinny, floral, wide, silk, long, short – you name it. What was popular with ties years ago will eventually return as being popular today.

    What can be don, given the ever changing fashion industry, to find some sort of niche in your personal appearance? Therein lies the secret. It is what you feel comfortable with. Be your own fashion designer. Wear clothes that are a part of your personality and not some designer’s means to an end. After all – purchasing any designer’s clothing lines pays for the designer’s ever increasing appetite for the “good life” while keeping a strangle hold on yours.

    In these tough economic times, it is possible to take what is available in your closet and make a few adjustments, should your need be to keep up with the latest fashion. If you are unable to do so, seek out a professional who will gladly “update” you with a far less asking price. You are an individual. Your “clothing eye” should be unique unto you.
